SHURE provides innovative solution for Dubai restaurant

Coco's California Restaurant has recently deployed a two way communication system at their Deira City Centre branch using Shure's personal monitoring system (PSM) and Microflex microphones.

NMK Electronics Ent., the Shure distributor in the UAE installed this innovative solution in just one day and the staff at the restaurant are already taking advantage of this pioneering system.

When visiting Coco's at Deira City Centre one can notice the waiters and waitresses having these small earphones in one ear and a body pack on their waist. This allows them to hear the chef, who is in the kitchen, instruct them on what meals or dishes are ready to be served. This complete wireless system allows the staff to move around the restaurant, serving diners while still being posted on whether an order is ready or not.

Simultaneously, while the personal in-ear monitors allow the chef to speak to the waiters and waitresses, they on the other hand can give their orders to the kitchen by using two installed Microflex microphones that are placed in both the inner and outer parts of the restaurant.

Coco's has installed the system to increase efficiency in their restaurant and are currently putting it through a test before they install the same system in their other branches in the UAE. NMK's Projects Manager, Simon Daniels said, 'This is a unique system, where equipment for a certain application is used for a totally different one. In fact, Coco's is the only restaurant with such a system.'

PSM® 200

The PSM 200 system installed at Coco's consists of a transmitter, the P2T Wireless TransMixer and additional P2R Hybrid Bodypack Receivers which also include the E2 Earphones with High Energy Drivers. Usually used on stage by performers as a practical alternative to floor wedges, this system allows the waiters and waitresses to clearly hear the chef without any noise or disturbances.

Microflex® microphones

The MX418D gooseneck microphone, which is part of the Microflex range of microphones, was used for the project. These microphones for installed applications can be used in courtrooms, conference centers, auditoriums and also houses of worship. The unit includes a base with one programmable switch, for either muting the microphone when pressed or only having the microphone on when pressed.
